Tinta Festival Ljubljana

In October 2024, together with collective Stripotetke, I had the joy and honor of taking part in the Tinta Comics Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia, a vibrant, generous, and important space for comics in the region. This year’s edition placed a powerful spotlight on women in comics, which made our participation as Stripotetke feel especially meaningful.

At the WOMCOM: Women Power in Comics conference, we joined a panel on comics communities alongside colleagues from Croatia, Hungary, the UK, and Germany. The discussion touched on collective practices, the importance of regional solidarity, and the quiet, but radical, act of building platforms for new generations of women comic artists. These kinds of conversations, rooted in mutual care and shared challenges, felt urgent and necessary—both for artistic growth and for nurturing cross-border feminist alliances.

Another special moment for us was presenting our collective publication Kod Kuće (At Home), a book born from the stories, drawings, and lived experiences of Stripotetke members. The audience at Tinta received it with so much warmth and curiosity. More than a book, Kod Kuće is a stitched-together reflection on belonging, domesticity, and resilience, it speaks of homes we carry, homes we lose, and homes we dream into being. Seeing readers connect to those narratives reminded us why we do this work.

The whole festival was buzzing with exchange. From masterclasses with amazing artists like Noémie Marsily and Anna Haifisch to workshops, exhibitions, and shared meals, Tinta was not just a place to show comics, it was a place to think together, draw together, and imagine better futures.

For us as a collective, Tinta was a moment of affirmation: of our mission, our voices, and the importance of feminist storytelling in the comics field. We left with fresh energy, new ideas, and a deeper sense of connection, not just to other artists, but to the shared space we are all trying to grow.

Thank you, Tinta Festival, for the invitation, the care, and the space to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Until next time!
